BUP Symposium 2025

The very first in-person BUP Symposium took place on 26-28 November 2026 at Uppsala University. Close to 100 colleagues from all over the Baltic Sea Region, coming from 9 countries, representing 41 universities, attended the event. The participants at the BUP PhD Students Training also took part in the event.

The Symposium featured five parallel sessions connected to the theme ‘Strengthening the Security and Resilience of the Baltic Sea Region – Environmental, Political, Social, and Economic Shocks and Crises’. Each session brought together a diverse group of researchers, enabling rich interdisciplinary discussions on these themes, one of the aspects most appreciated by participants. The insights from these discussions were later carried into the final panel session, where all attendees had the opportunity to reflect on and connect the key themes explored throughout the event.

Particularly highlighted were the parallel sessions and panel discussion and the participants thought that the event was worthwhile in attending, in terms of their research, future aspirations and career. The event got an overall 9/10 rating. Event report from the BUP Symposium 2025.
