BUP for researchers
One of the main aims of The Baltic University Programme is to promote a regional research community in the field of sustainability science. The BUP works with this mainly by:
- Offering research networks according to the 10 BUP themes.
- Giving researchers the opportunity to be featured in the BUP research news.
- Coordinating publications and annual grant calls through the BUP Research and Publication Office (BUPRaP).
- Arranging a BUP Symposium related to the 10 BUP themes.
- Arranging scientific conferences in cooperation with BUP participating universities.

Research networking and collaborations
We strive towards creating opportunities for researchers at BUP participating universities to meet and cooperate with each other. One way of promoting research collaboration is by creating research networks within the ten BUP themes that we present on the BUP website.
BUP’s 35-year celebratory webinars
To celebrate the Programme’s 35th anniversary in 2026, we will host a series of webinars dedicated to sustainability and the ten BUP themes. All BUP colleagues are invited to contribute and are welcome to apply to give a presentation.
The content of each webinar will address sustainability and one of the ten BUP themes, and may take the form of a lecture, workshop, seminar, or similar format.
The deadline for applications for the first webinars to be held in spring 2026 is 14 December 2025.

BUP Research News
To further dissimenate research being conducted in the region, researchers can get featured in the BUP research news. A researcher or research project can get highlighted on the BUP's Linkedin and in the BUP Weekly. Information connected to the research, as well as about the researcher/s in charge, will be added.

Supervisor Collegium
This is an initiative where scholars contribute with their skills and knowledge to supervise master and PhD students from participating universities all over the region. This is a win-win situation. Both for students who can get a second set of support, but also for supervisors who get to add this to their skillset.
The main aim of the Supervisor Collegium is to exchange, grow and develop a Collegium of supervisors who can collaborate and learn together and exchange experiences in an interdisciplinary and intercultural environment.

BUP Symposium
The Symposium is a platform where regional educational and research communities can come together and get to know colleagues at participating universities of The Baltic University Programme (BUP). It serves as an arena for disseminating recent research and where new discussions and collaborations can begin.
The Symposium features presentations from researchers and sessions that focus on future research collaboration and projects. Those who attend have the opportunity to share new research as well as foster new research collaborations.

Research visibility
One way of sharing research within the Programme has been done via the BUP Research Notes Letter. This publication includeded abstracts on publications concerning the Baltic Sea Region and our ten BUP themes.
The Research Notes Letter aimed to reflect the multi- and interdisciplinary science we believe is central to meeting the Sustainable Development Goals indicated by the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Support for young researchers
The BUP has two yearly recurring funding opportunities, the BUP PhD Award and the BUP Mobility Grant, aimed at young researchers. The PhD Award supports high-quality research promoting sustainable development in a Baltic Sea Region context. The Mobility Grant aims to develop and strengthen networking and cooperation for young researchers in the Baltic Sea Region.
