BUP PhD Students Training 2026

This event is an opportunity for PhD students to become better acquainted with other academic perspectives. The participants are offered training in interdisciplinary research cooperation with the guidance of an international group of senior scientists. The PhD Students Training takes place on 23-27 November 2026 at Lodz University of Technology, Lodz, Poland.

The objective of this training is to give PhD students from BUP participating universities the possibility to meet and discuss scientific problems with a focus on sustainable development in an interdisciplinary, international, multicultural, and regional context. In this way, students will also get the opportunity to become acquainted with other universities and their scientific traditions.

The program of the training includes: lectures, workshops, students’ presentations of PhD work, and individual consultancies of the PhD thesis with international experts.

The event is hosted and organised by the Lodz University of Technology, in collaboration with Adam Mickiewicz University and the BUP Coordinating Secretariat in Uppsala.

Selection of participants

After the application deadline on 30 June 2026, the selection of participants will be made based on the applicant's motivation, field of study, and background. Selected PhD students will be offered a spot, while a smaller group of the remaining applicants will be put on a waiting list. At the latest on 3 July 2026, the PhD students who have been selected will be contacted.

Only applications written in English will be considered. At the time of the event, you must be enrolled at a BUP participating university.

Practical information

Cost and location

There is no participation fee for this event. Lunches, dinners, and coffee breaks will be provided by the BUP during the event program days.

The accepted PhD students are expected to cover their travel and accommodation themselves. To cover the expenses, we recommended applying for Erasmus+ grants or other grants from your home university. Please contact an International/Erasmus coordinator at your home university. We are ready to help with the necessary documentation needed for the grant application. Selected students who are not eligible for Erasmus funding or other grants may still contact the BUP Coordinating Secretariat to discuss the possibility of financial support to cover their accommodation. In such cases, they should provide appropriate documentation as evidence.

Certificate of attendance

PhD students who attend the event will be provided with a certificate stating the amount of Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) corresponding to attendance.

Cancellation policy

There is no fee to take part in this event, since your participation will be covered by The Baltic University Programme. However, if you don't show up or cancel your participation with late notice (after 26 October 2026), we hold the right to charge you or your university department the cost of your participation (300 €). We only accept late cancellations due to illness, family-related matters, or force majeure, if sufficient documents can be provided (doctor's certificate, etc.).
