Seminar series: Interwoven Worlds (2024)

The importance of culture in the transition to a greener, more inclusive and digital society, and the role of culture and creativity in boosting innovation, was discussed in a series of seminars this autumn. The seminars highlighted research, experiences and concrete cases and explore conditions, obstacles and opportunities relating to the potential contribution of culture and creativity towards solving societal challenges.

The seminar series was organised by Uppsala University Culture & Creativity together with Uppsala Municipality and Region Uppsala.

Seminars in the series autumn 2024

  • 25 September 2024: The role of creativity in innovation-driven development
    About the importance of culture and creativity for a sustainable, inclusive and innovation-driven Europe and the new national strategy for cultural and creative industries.
  • 24 October 2024: The Ecosystem of Culture
    About research on the role of culture for social cohesion and the transition to a more innovation-driven society, and present research on how the hidden geography and networks of culture can be mapped using AI and mathematical models.

  • 26 November 2024: Cirkular place development
    What have we learned through the seminar series and how can we translate these insights into a local and regional context?
    The third seminar in the Interwoven Worlds series was devoted to Swedish examples. Björn Ohlén and Lisa Lundin from Region Västra Götaland talked about the successful work with circular site development based on adapted reuse of cultural environments. Marlene A Johansson from RISE and Karin Björk from Umeå Municipality shared experiences from Umeå's Capital of Culture year and how culture and creativity have contributed to sustainable urban development.

    Discussions was led by the moderator David Karlsson, historian of ideas and cultural writer together with representatives from Uppsala University (Vice-Rektor Tora Holmberg), Uppsala Municipality (Patric Kiraly) and Region Uppsala (Annika Eklund).

Info meeting on funding opportunities (2024)

EIT Culture & Creativity publishes open calls for proposals for innovative higher education, professional training, products and services, as well as to start and accelerate businesses.

An info meeting was held 10 September 2024, for researches interested in applying for upcoming calls. On the agenda was an overview of EIT Culture & Creativity, upcoming calls and the process.

Seminar: Possible Worlds: Towards a New Imaginary (2024)

The internationally recognised philosopher Timothy Morton and innovation expert Michela Magas meet game designer Doris Rusch and futurist Karim Jebari in a captivating conversation about the major issues of our time. The conversation will be a visionary introduction to the Otherworldly festival at Uppsala Konsert & Kongress on Friday 4 October.

In the crossing of art and research: New questions, new methods – new answers? (2023)
