Brian Danley, assistant professor in Natural resources and sustainable development at the Department of Earth Sciences, was interviewed by CNBC International for a series on private ownership of public spaces. Brian explains how the private ownership of Sweden's forests has many social and economic benefits, yet the same private ownership structure also complicates environmental sustainability.

"There are reasons why Swedish family forest owners, many of whom are very environmentally-minded, may not take additional environmental considerations in their forestry practices... They may not only do it for environmental reasons, but a host of other reasons as well."
