Four years of full-time study + research project
The doctoral programme comprises four years of full-time study. It consists of courses and an independent research project designed to generate new knowledge in an area of scientific interest. The programme results in a doctoral thesis, or a licentiate thesis if you choose to complete the programme after two years.
Both basic and applied research
The department's research provides great opportunities for collaboration between different doctoral programme subjects. The research projects vary from basic research on Earth's development and processes to more applied issues on natural disasters, energy, environment and natural resources that are highly relevant in today's society.
