Adam Kinnwall helps companies become sustainable
Interview from 2025
Where do you work today and what do you do? What does a typical work day/week look like?
Today I work at PwC as a sustainability advisor. I help companies develop their sustainability strategy, review sustainability reports so they do not contain green-washing, and implement EU directives linked to sustainability such as CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and SFDR (Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation). A typical week consists of client meetings, report writing, analysis of Excel data and monitoring EU regulatory developments.
What was your first job after graduating?
After my bachelor's degree, my first job was a summer job as an analyst at a lobbying organization, and after my master's degree, my first job was as a substitute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the unit where I did my internship. However, the road to a permanent job was long and took me two years. It required several job changes along the way.
How has your political science degree from Uppsala University helped you in your career?
It has given me a good understanding of how economic systems, human behavior, political ideas and legislative processes shape our society. In my role at PwC, the understanding of the political processes behind EU sustainability legislation combined with an understanding of micro- and macro-economics has been particularly rewarding.
Why did you choose the Bachelor's Programme in Political Sciences at Uppsala University?
The program gave a broad base, provided an opportunity to try out many different subjects and had a strong focus on critical thinking.
What is your best memory from your time at Uppsala University?
Studying together on all the different campuses around Uppsala and having lunch together at the different nations. Excellent courses and professors, equally great students and peers.
What advice would you give to current and future students of political science?
Do an internship! It's very important to get a foot in the door of the labor market. Another important tip is to practice cognitive tests that measure numerical and logical thinking alongside your studies. This is because almost all jobs require applicants to take these tests, regardless of whether you are going to work for the Government or McKinsey.
