Where are you working now and what is your current position? On a typical day (or week) in this position, what do you do?

I work as an analyst at the Swedish Agency for Public Management (Statskontoret). The agency provides the Swedish government with studies in all areas with the aim of making the public sector more efficient.

My daily tasks depend on the current project I am working on. Our work normally entails collecting and analysing data and other information in order to be able to carry out a study that answers all the questions that the government need answered. We use statistics, relevant documents, interviews with stakeholders and comparative analyses to carry out the studies.

What was your first job after graduation?

I actually started my career as an analyst at Statskontoret. I later moved on to other jobs, but decided to return because I missed several aspects of the job: The possibility to get entrenched in a certain policy area and learn more about it. Having to handle all the methodological crossroads every new project faces. Delivering a report whose aim is to improve the workings of the state sector.

To what extent is what you learned during your studies in Political Science at Uppsala University applicable in your current job?

To a very large extent. Not only did my studies provide me with basic knowledge of the Swedish system for public management, they also fostered a way of thinking that has been useful in every aspect of my career so far.

Why did you choose the Master’s Programme in Political Science at Uppsala University?

I have always had a basic interest in societal issues and a will to learn about the context in which policies are made and remade. I considered myself lucky to be able to study these issues at Uppsala University as I considered to be one of the most prominent universities within the field.

What is your best memory from your time at Uppsala University?

Growing up in Uppsala, I was always fascinated by the university and the way it puts a mark on the whole town. For instance, Valborg would not be the same without the students making it a festivity for everyone. Being able to be a part of the student experience of Uppsala University proved to be as fun and rewarding as I imagined it to be.

What advice would you give to current and future students of Political Science?

Don’t be afraid to ask the silly questions. Have fun!
