What happens when you access a website? How does your browser know which server to connect to? This week we will look into DNS, the system that translates domain names into numerical IP addresses.

In an experiment we will make your DNS requests visible. What can be inferred from these requests? Who can see them? Internet Service Providers and major tech companies like Google and Cloudflare run DNS resolvers. In countries where the Internet is censored, DNS blocking is used as a way to restrict access to certain websites. Thomas Steen Rasmussen from UncensoredDNS will tell us about security and privacy issues with the DNS protocol, and introduce us to solutions like DNS over TLS (DoT), DNS over HTTPS (DoH), and tools to avoid DNS blocking.

After the talk there will be time to experiment with DNS tools yourself.

Open for all, no registration needed. Bring a friend!
