Research arenas

The Role of an Arena

An arena brings together researchers from several divisions with shared interests, facilitating collaboration but without being an administrative unit.

Within its field of activities, an arena should:

  • Promote research that crosses division boundaries.
  • Serve as a catalyst in creating research constellations, thus contributing to a dynamic research environment.
  • Enable collective efforts to launch new lines of research of common interest.
  • Help to identify and form research constellations that may seek funding for major research projects.

Active Research Arenas

  • Cybersecurity is about the domain of security informatics and uses techniques from computational linguistics, machine learning, visualisation, artificial intelligence, as well as ethical and philosophical views on security.

  • Sustainability: Research, education, and outreach on sustainability are spread all over the divisions and research groups of the Department of Information Technology. The purpose of this arena is to coordinate all this into a single window into these activities.

  • Trustworthy AI: The interdisciplinarity of trustworthy AI represents a tangible opportunity for cross-division collaboration across established areas of expertise at our Department. A primary aim of this arena is to foster new synergies and collaborations relating to the development of human-centered technologies.
