"Recent years have been a period in which certain computer-related technologies are being relied upon, with relatively little reflection on their short- and long-term effects," Peter Neumann wrote in 2023.
A computer user since the 1950s, Neumann dedicated his career to researching computer security, safety, and reliability. Besides pointing out the risks that come with the use of computer-related technologies, he also developed remedies. On May 17 2026, he died at 93. In his memory, we will read and discuss his 2023 Inside Risks column "Computer-Related Risks and Remediation Challenges. Surveying the nontechnical issues interwoven with computer-related technologies".
