The conference will be held as an in-person event. We will, however, accept presentations online in case the presenter is unable to travel to Sweden for visa reasons.
Organizers:
Carina Jahani and Jaroslava Obrtelová, Department of Linguistics and Philology, Uppsala University.
The conference is organized within the framework of Jaroslava Obrtelová’s international postdoc project "Competing Subordinating Strategies in East Iranic Pamir Languages", financed by the Swedish Research Council.
Call for papers:
Clause linkage in Iranian languages is a fascinating topic. It includes often seemingly inconsistent systems of clause linking strategies with competing right and left branching patterns, sometimes allowing for several interpretations. We welcome papers that address clause linking in Old, Middle, and New Iranian languages and/or in languages from language families that are in contact with Iranian, e.g. Turkic, Semitic, and Indo-Aryan languages. The presentations can take a syntactic, semantic and/or pragmatic approach. They should be 30 minutes long (20 minutes for the presentation and 10 minutes for questions and comments).
Please submit your abstract by January 31, 2025, to clauselinkage@lingfil.uu.se
The abstract should be 2–3 A4 pages (approximately 3000–4000 characters) and include a presentation of the research question and the method and material used in the study, as well as some language data and a list of references. Please send the abstract as two PDF files, one file with the author’s name (authors’ names) and e-mail address(es), and one anonymous file. Also indicate who is the corresponding author.
Notification of acceptance by March 28, 2025.
