Research Project
Development of antibacterial bone cement and models for evaluating its biological response
Polymeric bone cement has been widely used for vertebral augmentation procedures. However, infections caused by bacterial biofilm formation and adjacent level vertebral fractures are potential high-risk complications related to the procedures. Also, current commonly used methods for evaluating the antibacterial properties of bone cement lack of biofilm model study. Therefore, this project aims to develop antibiofilm bone cement with mechanical performance compatibility and design novel bacterial study models to be used for evaluating the antibiofilm ability of bone cement.
