Nanocellulose materials for biomedical applications

Cellulose is the most abundant biopolymer on earth. We research the possibility of using nanocellulose as a material for biomedical applications.

About the project

Cellulose is the most abundant biopolymer on earth. We research the possibility of using nanocellulose as a material for biomedical applications.

Nanocellulose is the product of cellulose defibrillation into nanoscale units. The term nanocellulose includes a family of heterogenous cellulosic materials which differ in the method of their production, origin, size, aspect ratio, and surface properties. Nanocellulose has a number of properties which make it appealing in biomedical applications. Our mission is to explore new avenues of using nanocellulose in biomedicine. Some of the currently ongoing research includes development of virus removal paper filters, cellulose based extracorporeal blood treatment materials, and nano cellulose composites for tissue engineering.
