Junior researchers experiencing frontline science at Janssen Pharmaceuticals

"Our hosts at Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Jens Ceulemans and Bram Schroyen, gave us a fantastic introduction to the facilities and made sure our study visit turned out an invaluable experience," state MayuraTalwelkar Shimpi and Prosper Emeh of SweDeliver, on their return from two days at one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies.
“Our visit to Janssen Pharmaceuticals was an invaluable experience, allowing us to gain a comprehensive understanding of the drug development process, encompassing every stage from discovery to clinical trials. Also, the opportunity to present and receive constructive feedback on our own research was among the many highlights of the trip,” states Mayura Talwelkar Shimpi, SweDeliver postdoc, who together with PhD Student Prosper Emeh, recently returned to Uppsala University after a study visit to Janssen Pharmaceuticals facilities in Beerse, Belgium.
The visit to Beerse was arranged within the framework of SweDeliver's ongoing mentoring program, with a schedule including, among other things, a guided tour through the company's facilities and scientific talks with representatives of Janssen Pharmaceuticals.

“We were very well taken care of by our hosts Jens Ceulemans and Bram Schroyen, who gave us a fantastic introduction to Janssen Pharmaceuticals' facilities and made sure that our two days in Beerse in every aspect turned out a wonderful experience with many interesting meetings with Janssen's talented scientists,” says Prosper Emeh.
The SweDeliver mentoring program is part of the center's Training and Career Development Work Package, providing SweDeliver's junior researchers opportunities to develop their skills in areas such as the commercialization and marketing of research ideas. This autumn, a study visit with APL researchers travelling to Uppsala will be arranged. Also on the agenda is a trip for SweDeliver's junior researchers to CTC with a focus on microdialysis technology.
“These study visits provide our junior researchers with unique insights into the operations of potential future employers as well as what a working day actually looks like in the pharmaceutical industry. In addition, it gives both researchers and company the opportunity to broaden their networks, providing important future connections, states Alexandra Teleki, SweDeliver Center co-Director.
