Welcome to Our Science Exhibition at BMC

At Uppsala University's Biomedical Centre (BMC), you can explore the Faculty of Pharmacy's scientific exhibition. Here, our research groups present their current projects and objects from their laboratories. In these films, the researchers introduce their work in their own words.

Molecular Pharmaceutics • Christel Bergström

Meet Christel Bergström, Professor of Molecular Pharmaceutics, who develops ways to tailor medicines to individual patients – something that is particularly important for seriously ill children and elderly. Christel and her team are currently developing a 3D printer that customises the dose, taste and shape of medicines to meet each individual's needs.

The drugs Christel talks about have been produced in the team's own 3D laboratory and are among the many fascinating objects you can discover at the Faculty of Pharmacy's scientific exhibition at Uppsala University's Biomedical Centre.

Pharmacognosy • Ulf Göransson

Meet Ulf Göransson, Professor of Pharmacognosy, who explores the plant and animal kingdoms in the search for tomorrow's drugs. Today, Ulf and his team are involved in a global collaboration analysing thousands of organisms collected from nature.

The Pakistani millipede Ulf talks about is one of the many fascinating objects you can discover at our scientific exhibition at Uppsala University's Biomedical Centre.

Pharmaceutical Physical Chemistry • Per Hansson

Meet Per Hansson, Professor of Pharmaceutical Physical Chemistry, whose research focuses on the factors that determine how efficiently protein and peptide drugs, injected under the skin, reach the bloodstream. Per and his team are involved in the international competence centre SweDeliver, where they contribute to Uppsala University's work at the forefront of research in parenteral drug delivery.

The instrument Per talks about, SAXS, is an X-ray scattering instrument used to measure small- and wide-angle X-ray scattering. It is also one of the many fascinating objects you can discover at the Faculty of Pharmacy's scientific exhibition at Uppsala University's Biomedical Centre.

Analytical Pharmaceutical Chemistry • Mikael Hedeland

Meet Mikael Hedeland, Professor of Analytical Pharmaceutical Chemistry, whose team develops analytical tools that pave the way for new breakthroughs in the life sciences. Mikael's research has, among other things, helped expose an Olympic gold medallist who had used performance-enhancing drugs, and now plays an important role in the search for better treatments for liver cancer.

The 3D-printed model Mikael talks about is one of the many fascinating objects you can discover at our scientific exhibition at Uppsala University's Biomedical Centre.

Theranostics • Anna Orlova

Meet Anna Orlova, Professor of Theranostics, whose research focuses on developing radioactive medicines for the detection and treatment of tumours. Anna's research group focuses on prostate cancer, with the aim of helping many men live longer and healthier lives.

The molecule Anna talks about is a compound developed by her research group. It binds to even the smallest metastases, makes them visible through medical imaging, and delivers drugs that kill the tumour cells. It is also one of the many fascinating objects you can discover at the Faculty of Pharmacy's scientific exhibition at Uppsala University's Biomedical Centre.
