Pharmaceutical Physical Chemistry

The research group in Pharmaceutical Physical Chemistry at Uppsala University
At the heart of the life sciences
The research group in Pharmaceutical Physical Chemistry clarifies the relationship between the molecular structure of drug molecules, their physicochemical properties and the possibilities to control how they are stored in and released from different types of particulate drug carriers and formulations.
Our aim is to create new knowledge making it possible to develop new or improved systems for the administration of drugs, including macromolecular drugs such as peptides and proteins, and small and amphiphilic drug molecules including cancer drugs. Our group's activities combine experimental and theoretical methods in the border area between physical chemistry, drug formulation and materials science.

Subcutaneous drug delivery
Research with a focus on in-depth understanding of parental administration of drugs.

Amphiphilic properties of drug molecules
Research with a focus on amphiphilic properties of drug molecules and their self-assemble in the presence of phospholipids.

Gels for drug delivery
Research with a focus on fundamental aspects of the interaction between hydrogels and different types of active substances and excipients.
