Description

This project focus on stress symptoms among women recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Within the project, a multicenter study using a stepped care design has been conducted, evaluating the effects of information and a program for stress management based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

The study investigates effects of the program on stress symptoms and psychosocial well-being, and health economic evaluations was further conducted.

The project aims to study prevalence of stress symptoms among female patients diagnosed with breast cancer, as well as to explore what kind of stress management interventions are necessary to improve psychosocial well-being.

This is being studies in a multicenter prospective longitudial intervention study, using a stepped-care approach. Step 1 entails a two-hour information program about stress management. Patients reporting clinical levels of stress after step 1 are offered opportunity to participate in step 2. In step 2, patients are randomized to either individual or group-based stress management training, based on methods derived from cognitive behavior therapy (CBT).
