Research projects
Practice, Church, and Household
Within Church History, future research on the historical role of the Christian household is based on a project financed by Riksbankens jubileumsfond (The Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation): Den nordiska hushållsstaten – variationer på ett tema av Luther (The Nordic Household State: Variations on a Theme by Luther). The final report was submitted in 2023 and the project resulted in several internationally published articles, a monograph, and the anthology: Den nordiska hushållstaten – variationer på ett tema av Luther (The Nordic Household State – variations on a theme by Luther), published by the Swedish Church History Association.
Church and Nation
The CIRCUS (Centre for Integrated Research on Culture and Society) network The Historical Study of National Christianities (HNC) constitutes a multi-disciplinary university-funded network of historians, church historians, and educational historians with a focus on modern Nordic Christian education and nation building.
The initial HNC project resulted in several applications for external research funds. In May 2023, the network's doctoral students organized a notable international symposium: National Christianities in the Nordic Region – Past and Present.
Men and women as decision-makers within the Church of Sweden
In the 1930s, lay people within the Church of Sweden gained a more significant place as local decision-makers. The church has since been democratized with a shift in power from priests to elected lay-people. With time, more women have been given leading positions. The study aims to show how the reforms were designed on a macro level and what information lay people received over time. At the micro level, studies of the bishops' documents and the press take place to shed light on how the reforms were shaped locally 1930–2000.
