Coin Collection

The Uppsala University Coin Cabinet dates back to the 18th century, when collecting coins was a popular pastime among the rich and educated classes. The exhibition features coins and medals from all over the world, including one of the very first coins, dating from around 600 BC. There are extensive collections of coins from ancient Greece and Rome, as well as several unique coins and medals from Sweden, such as those from Queen Christina. You can also see one of the world's first banknotes and one of the largest and heaviest coins ever made.
