The dawn of the Viking Age

This exhibition displays unique items from the university's collection of finds from the burial grounds at Valsgärde near Uppsala. The graves are mainly from the Vendel Period, which preceded the Viking Age. The exhibition includes helmets, weapons, decorated bridles, jewellery, and glass objects. These are used to illustrate new ways of understanding the transition between the Vendel Period and the Viking Age, and new ways of tracing continuities in the cultures and societies that developed between the 6th and 11th centuries AD.

Interior from the Gustavianum.
