UUBF can assist researchers with a range of services, from well-equipped behavioural rooms to help with ethical applications and data analysis.
On this page, you can read more about our different services and prices for them. UUBF is funded by the Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy. We can thereby offer subsidized prices for users from within the Disciplinary Domain, while other users pay the regular price. All listed prices are without overhead.

Before you start
Before starting experiments involving animals, make sure to take into consideration the following points:
- All procedures involving animals must be approved by the Animal Ethics Committee before experiments can begin. UUBF will review ethical permits and verify that all procedures are approved before you can start your experiments at our facilities. You are welcome to email UUBF so that we can support you in drafting or amending your applications for ethical permits.
- Before you can start to carry out animal experiments, you need proper education (equivalent to FELASA certification). If you already have relevant education, send your certificate to the University veterinarian or email UUBF, and we will assist you.
- Planning behavior experiments, including the start date, will be done in consultation with UUBF. You need to plan your experiments in advance, as many researchers share limited resources!

General services and consultation
UUBF offers consultations with our staff, which can be:
- Discussions and help with research planning
- Education, e.g., an introduction to a software
- Statistical analysis and scripting
- Writing ethical applications
- Practical help in studies
The scope of the consultation should always be discussed in advance.

Introduction to the facilities
UUBF charges a flat rate of 400 SEK for new users, which includes a half-day introduction to the facility you will be working with. If further introduction is needed, an hourly rate is charged.
Workstations for analysis
UUBF provides computers with software for behavioural and statistical analysis with Ethovision or SIMCA.

Ethovision XT
Rentable computer with a hardware license key
UUBF provides a computer equipped with an Ethovision XT license, which can be used for analysis of video files. This allows you to perform reacquisition of Ethovision experiments as well as acquisition using videos recorded with third-party recording software.
Ethovision XT analysis license without hardware key
Additionally, we offer our clients the option to install Ethovision XT on their lab computers. Using this license, you can analyse your already acquired experiments. If you need to reacquire experiments or acquire experiments from third-party recording software, please refer to our computer with the hardware license key instead. Once acquired, you can take your experiments with you and perform the remaining analysis on your lab computer.
SIMCA
SIMCA is a software designed for multivariate data analysis, such as principal component analysis (PCA). It allows for analysis and interpretation of complex experiments and tests such as the Multivariate concentric square field™ (MCSF).
BSL-2 facility
UUBF is responsible for a virus room for mice, approved for BSL-2 classed vector injections.

Rental of behavioural rooms and general labs for rodents
For rodents, UUBF has several rooms equipped for behavioural testing, as well as general labs for other work.
