Two new diagnoses: Kidney- and testicular cancer

On the first of December 2022, two new diagnostic areas were started in U-CAN: kidney cancer and testicular cancer. These are thus the 14th and the 15th diagnostic areas to join the U-CAN-project.

The start of sample collection within kidney and testicular cancer means that the U-CAN-project breaks new ground regarding the project's expansion into new diagnostic areas. In total, more than 10 new diagnostic areas have now joined U-CAN beyond the first four that started in 2010. The collection of samples and data in both diagnostic areas is done as a collaborative effort between the urology- and oncology clinics at the Akademiska hospital in Uppsala.

Kidney- and testicular cancer affects around 1200 and 300 persons in Sweden per year, respectively. In Uppsala, U-CAN expects to include around 100 new patients per year for the two diagnostic groups combined.
