Medfarm – a strong force in important issues for the world around us
Column
Just as summer is approaching, new positive rankings are coming in for Uppsala University and our Disciplinary Domain. We continue to be a solid, internationally leading academic hub. But did you know that in addition to our scientific excellence, we are also measured by our capacity to interact with the surrounding society?
Medfarm is a strong player, highly engaged in the full range of collaborative activities. We have many excellent entrepreneurs, innovators, debaters and educators! During the last week of June, several of our committed employees will travel to Visby to actively participate in Almedalen Week.
Sweden’s largest collaborative arena for societal issues
During Almedalen Week, Sweden’s largest collaboration arena where critical societal issues are debated and ventilated, this year, we will highlight and discuss important topics in education, working life, decision-making and societal development. The areas we specifically highlight showcase the fantastic breadth of our Disciplinary Domain. We will discuss everything from skills supply, complex societal challenges and health data, Sweden’s appeal as a research nation, the cost of medicines for the seriously ill and much more.
Why is it important to spend the last week before the holiday in Almedalen, you might ask? Besides shaping our thoughts and positions through engagement, we also get the opportunity to interact with leaders and decision-makers in our sector in a relaxed and informal way. We establish new contacts and create new alliances that are key to making our voices heard and pursuing issues that are important to us.
An opportunity to make our voices heard
We also get the opportunity to exchange ideas and get input from experts on the issues we promote. And not least, we also make our voices heard in areas others prioritise to highlight and pursue. This year, there has been a lot of pressure on our employees; many want to include our unique expertise in their panel discussions.
If you are keen to raise an issue important to you in Almedalen 2025, you are more than welcome to contact me. Until then – and for those not spending the last week of June in Almedalen – don’t fret! All our seminars are on our calendar, and you can follow several of them live via streaming links. I can’t think of a better way to start the summer than by listening to the exciting conversations and debates in Almedalen, perhaps from a hammock in a quiet spot!
