Here are some common questions and answers from the student guiance.

General education questions

The schedule and other course information is found in Studium. The preliminary schedule is published no later than five weeks before the start of the course.

The list of literature is accessible in the curriculum for each course. You can also search for your course on the syllabus search page. You can also find the syllabus and the literature list through the course page in Studium. Some literature choices occur in consultation with teaching teachers and are therefore not published in the syllabus.

If you have a permanent disability that affects your studies, you can receive support during your studies at the university. You can apply for educational support at any time during your studies. Here is more information:

Pedagogical support for you who are studying

There are coordinators who work with targeted pedagogical support for students and doctoral students with functional variation, both in Uppsala and on Gotland. When you have received a decision on adaptation, you contact the department's study guidance.

Qustions about exchange studies

It may be difficult to find equivalent courses within the social work programme abroad. It has happened that social work students have done their internship aboard. For question regarding internships aboard, contact the internship coordinator.

It is common that students take approved leave of study, to study courses abroad. The department for international opportunities offers exchanges at many different institutions around the world.

Within the master’s programme you will take some optional courses during semester 2 and 3. This is an excellent opportunity to study abroad.

Questions regarding my degree

When you are completely finished with your studies and received your grades for al the courses you want to include in your degree you may apply for a degree. Here you will find more information about the requirements for a degree.

Questions about studies on second cycle

For you who has a Degree of Bachelor of Science in Social Work we offer the master’s programme in humanities and social sciences - social work.

Yes, but not in the Department for Social Work. Via antagning.se you can find continued professional development, for example, psychotherapist, Healthcare Counseling, or deacon.

Questions about work after graduation

The social work programme is a vocational education that provides you social science knowledge and practical skills. The programme prepares you to carry out social work on and individual-, group-, organisational-, and societal level.

Social workers work with social issues, and different forms of social questions in public and private sector. The work can be targeted towards investigation, aid processing, treatment, work with structural issues or administratively oriented towards work management and planning. Different titles that may occur when searching for jobs are social secretary in municipal government, assistance officer in elderly and disabled care or as a counsellor. If you work as a social worker in the field you will cooperate with police, authorities, or different organizations in various community preventive measures. Within the correctional system, there are professional titles such as probation inspector and treatment assistant. The social work program can also form the basis for training to become a health care counsellor, psychotherapist or deacon.
