About the course
The course covers both theoretical and practical basis of filter design and characterization. The following topics will be covered.
Materials for filters suitable for bioprocessing; common methods of filter preparation; filter design and filtration modes; mechanisms of particle retention; most penetrating particle size (MPPS); key filter and operation parameters; absolute and nominal filter ratings; mathematical models for filter fouling; physical-chemical, mechanical and microbiological characterisation of filters, including but not limited to, e.g., displacement (intrusion) techniques, thermo- and cryoporometry, tracer retention techniques; non-destructive and destructive integrity testing.
