About the course
The course provides an overview of language change and language contact. This is achieved by discussing concepts such as borrowing, grammatical change, bilingualism, relexification and mixed languages. We mainly look at non-linguistic factors that shape language, such as geography, environment and social factors. Assessment consist of in-class writing and discussion exercises based on recent publications.
