About the course
What does it mean to be human in an often merciless world - and to seek to change that world? Students each document their own answers to those questions in the form of a personal canon of cherished words and images - a compendium of wisdom that they present in class at the end of the course. To nourish that project, the class contemplates the writings of religious and humanistic thinkers seeking a more humane world, punctuated by in-class interviews with invited authors and filmmakers.
