PLEASE NOTE: The course of study may depend on whether students begin their studies in an odd or even year. Also, students may choose to place the degree project course in another term, depending on how they choose to distribute other course work and possible term abroad over the course of the programme.
Semester 1
During the autumn semester, students take courses corresponding to a total of 30 credits. These must include an obligatory course in theory and method; either "Theory and Methods of Musicology 1", which focuses on historiography (7.5 credits, even years), or "Musicological Theory and Method 2 with a Focus on Cultural Studies" (7.5 credits, odd years), both of which run in the first period (Sept-Nov). The Dept. of Musicology also offers the optional course "Aesthetics of Music" (7.5 credits). Apart from these, students choose two optional 7.5-credit courses.
Moreover, students are invited to participate in the MA-programme's thesis writing seminar series, with ca. 4 meetings per term.
Theory and Methods of Musicology (even years) or Musicological Theory and Method 2 with a Focus on Cultural Studies, 7.5 credits, period 1. Obligatory.
Optional course, 7.5 credits, period 1.
Aesthetics of Music, 7.5 credts, period 2. Optional.
Optional course, 7.5 credits, period 2.
Semester 2
In the spring term, students take optional courses corresponding to 15 credits and spend time corresponding to 15 credits on thesis work. The department offers a course in music analysis (period 3) and a theme course whose content varies from term to term (period 4). During this term, students may also study abroad.

Early Modern Court Ballets: Text, Body and Representation, 7.5 credits, period 4. Optional
Thesis work, 7.5 credits, periods 3 and 4. Obligatory.
Semester 3
In the autumn semester of their second year, students take optional courses comprising 15 credits, and spend time corresponding to 15 credits on thesis work. The Dept. of Musicology offers a course on the theories and methods of musicology, which is optional for second year students. During this term, students may also study abroad.

Ethnomusicological Perspectives, 7.5 credits, period 4. Optional.
