Layout of the programme

The programme commences with an introduction to business studies, offering an initial overview of accounting, finance, organisation, management and marketing. The second semester consists of 30 credits of economics, providing a foundational understanding of micro- and macroeconomic theories. The third semester includes 15 credits of statistics and 15 credits in optional courses. These initial three semesters aim to provide a broad foundation within the economic fields and assist students in contextualizing their studies within societal and global contexts. Subsequent semesters give the students the opportunity to profile themselves by selecting their main field of study. In the final semester the students undertake the writing of a Bachelor thesis.

The main field of study is chosen between Economic History, Business Studies, Economics and Statistics. Required courses within the programme consist of Business Studies (30 credits), Economics (30 credits) and Statistics (15 credits).

The structure of studies varies depending on the chosen main field of study. For students selecting Business Studies or Economics as the main field of study, optional courses can be chosen during second half of the third semester (15 credits) and the fifth semester (30 credits). For students in any other selected main field of study, optional courses (15-30 credits) will be taken during either the third or fifth semester, depending on the chosen main field of study.

During the fifth semester, the students have the opportunity to select optional courses either at Uppsala University or at any of the partner universities worldwide with which Uppsala University collaborates.

Instruction

Throughout the programme, students will initially gain a broad understanding of the entire subject area and progressively develop more advanced knowledge in their chosen main field of study. This knowledge will be acquired through self-study, lectures, group discussions and independent projects.

Additionally, the students will gradually develop a deeper scientific approach, including skills such as planning, executing, analysing and reporting on scientific findings. Their ability to analyse and apply theoretical knowledge in practice will continuously evolve. Increased autonomy will be fostered, particularly during activities where students must take greater responsibility for their own learning. Moreover, training in cooperation, as well as oral and written communication alongside seminar and meeting culture will be gradually enhanced, with encouragement for both national and international contacts.

Students will demonstrate their knowledge and skills through various forms of examination. In their final thesis, students will demonstrate their attainment of a more independent approach to integrating knowledge.
