Entry requirements

120 credits with knowledge and skill corresponding to 40 points (60 ECTS) in Earth Sciences including Sedimentology and Stratigraphy MN1 10 points (15 ECTS credits).

Learning outcomes

After taking this course, the student should be able to

  • define and describe the formation, composition and distribution of ores, soils, industrial rocks and fossil fuels
  • apply her/his knowledge vocationally
  • use her/his skill and knowledge based on the understanding that geological resources within an on the lithosphere are non-renewable.

Content

The formation, composition and distribution of ore deposits, ore minerals, industrial minerals, oil, gas, coal, peat, gravel and rock materials. Localisation and excavation of pits for rock materials, gravel, sand, and peat. Analysis of material qualities by means of modern methods. Legislation and environmental aspects of the exploitation of natural resources.

Instruction

Lectures, group works, seminars, study visits, project work and laboratory experiments. Participation in group works, seminars project works, laboratory experiments and related lectures is compulsory.

Assessment

Examination corresponding to 10 ECTS-credits during the course and at the end of the course. Moreover, the compulsory field course, laboratory work, project work and seminars corresponding to 5 ECTS-credits must also be approved.
