Entry requirements

Minimum 30 credits of courses within the Master Programme in Molecular Medicine or equivalent.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course the student should be able to:

- Search, critically evaluate and compile scientific literature of relevance to the project

- Participate in the planning of a scientific study, delimit a scientific problem and select appropriate methods, all within given time frames

- Practically carry out, evaluate, interpret and document results of a scientific study

- In an understandable manner and proficient English present and discuss, in writing and at a seminar, the results from the project work

- give constructive criticism on text within the study field

- show a deep knowledge within the chosen field of study/research

Content

The course consists of an independent advanced assignment and is carried out individually under supervision support. Theoretical and methodological knowledge from completed courses of the Master Programme in Molecular Medicine should be applied, broadened and deepened from a scientific perspective. The work includes literature search, project planning/performance, critical analyses of own results and scientific literature as well as oral and written presentation. Students performing projects at academic departments or equivalent are expected to participate in the regular seminar activities of the research group.

Following tasks are included in the project work:

- A written project plan including a time schedule

- Practical work in accordance to the project plan

- Written report on obtained results

- Oral presentation including discussion and defence

- Critical analysis of other students oral and written presentation

Assessment

The project work is presented both orally and in writing according to specific instructions. In addition to approved scientific report and presentation, an approved project plan, assessment of work presented by other students as well as presence and active participation in the seminars of all course students' presentations, are required for the student to pass.
