Learning outcomes

The teaching should provide knowledge of the body uptake of nutrients and these storing and renewal in different physiological conditions. The student should be able to integrate the received knowledge so that she/he within this field can explain the background of relevant diseases and/or sjukdomssymptom.

The student is expected to be able to account on completion of the course for:

  • the structure of the digestive tract and the fettvävnadens at the makroanatomisk and histological level and these the function in connection with uptake and storing of different nutrients of organ
  • the pharmacology of the digestive tract
  • transport, storing and releasement in the body of different nutrients and the homeostasis of the glukosens
  • the adaptation to starvation and physical activity of the body
  • how ethanol is metabolised and short- and long metabolic effects of the etanolintag
  • how steroids, hemgrupper, nucleotides and amino acids are metabolised and
  • the functions of vitamins and minerals in the body.

Furthermore, the student should independently be able to search, compile and present information orally from biochemical/physiological literature.

Content

Cell metabolism with respect to: carbohydrates, lipids, amino acids, hemgrupper and nucleotides. Morphology, physiology and pharmacology for the matsmältningsorganen and fettväv. Strong emphasis is placed at the understanding of how the different organs interact to meet the different metabolic needs of tissues.

Instruction

The teaching includes lectures, seminars and problem-oriented group assignments. Seminars and group assignments are compulsory.

Assessment

To pass the course, passed results of all compulsory parts are required and accepted in writing indiviuellt examination.

Students who fail to pass the examination have the right to retake the examination on 4 additional occasions (= a total of 5 examination attempts). If special circumstances apply, the programme committee can admit additional examination attempts. Each occasion where the student participates in an examination is regarded as one examination attempt. Submission of so-called blank exam is counted as an examination.
