Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to • define and describe the basic phenomena and issues that are in focus in psychological research concerning development processes of significance for social functioning. • reproduce and reflect on central theoretical models within social development. • critically review research and possible applications within the field in relation to scientific models and current knowledge

Content

The course gives an overview of current biological, psychological, and environmental models and empirical research. Starting from the innate predispositions of the infant and its early experiences, the development of thinking, action, and social functioning is delineated. For later developmental phases, phenomena such as compassion, social withdrawal, and aggression will be focused on..

Instruction

Teaching is given in the form of lectures that are followed by literature seminars

Assessment

the student is examined in writing and through active participation in seminars and lectures. For examination, the grades used are failed, passed, and passed with distinction.
