Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- use Word and Excel to a satisfactory level,
- read and interpret drawings according to swedish standard,
- create complete detail- and assembly drawings according to swedish standard,
- plan dimensioning for function requirements and manufacturing requirements of a product,
- set tolerances on drawings according to swedish standard,
- use a methodology that results in stable and easy-to-edit models to create 3D-solids and assemblies,
- create assemblies with moving parts,
- use Product Data Management (PDM) for product design,
- combine knowledge in drafting and CAD to create a complete basis for manufacturing of a simple product, containing parts, assemblies and detail- and assembly drawings.
Content
Basic functions in Word and Excel. Basics of 3D CAD, modelling, assemblies and drawings with SolidWorks. Mechanisms, analysing, references, features, relations, modelling techniques, Product Data Management(PDM).
Basic concepts of drafting: Lines, scales, views, sections, dimensioning, tolerances and surface finish. Assembly drawing and detail drawing.
Instruction
Lectures, lessons, computer exercises, assignments and project work.
Assessment
Assignments (1 credit). Written theory test in drafting (3 credits), practical test in CAD (4 credits) and graded project work ( 2 credits).
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
Other directives
The course cannot be credited in a degree together with 1TE600, 3D CAD.
