Entry requirements

120 credits in science/engineering including 60 credits in electrical engineering. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • explain the different charging methods and understand the advantages, disadvantages and the limitations that exist for the different alternatives,
  • describe and critically analyze the different parts of the driveline, its function and how these interact,
  • calculate factors affecting electric car's energy consumption, efficiency, driving cycle and torque,
  • discuss the electric car's environmentally, socially and ethically.

Content

  • Parts of the driveline, its function and cooperation: battery, inverter, electric motor, measuring system, generator. Charging electric cars. Concepts such as: driving cycle, energy, power and torque. Industry perspective with guest lectures from industry. The electric car in society: problems, limitations and opportunities. The history and development of the electric car. The electric car from an environmental, societal and ethical perspective.

Instruction

Lectures, calculation laboratory work.

Assessment

Written exam (3 hp), laboratory work (1 hp) and project work (1 hp).

If there are special reasons for doing so, the examiner may make exceptions from the specified examination method of assessment and allow a student to be assessed by another method.  An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
