120 credits in science/engineering, of which at least 60 credits in electrical engineering. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- describe development trends and future technological steps for electric vehicles, and briefly describe the charging process of electric vehicles,
- analyse sustainability and ethical aspects concerning electric vehicles,
- discuss and reflect on electric vehicles in society and industry, today and in the future,
- discuss topics in electromobility,
- do an in-depth work on an electric vehicle and present it orally and in writing, and refer to relevant references,
- compare and evaluate different types of electric vehicles that are on the market today.
Content
Basic knowledge in electric propulsion systems. An introduction to and understanding of different aspects of university studies at Uppsala University (practical aspects of the studies, literature search and plagiarism). Equal opportunities encompassing all grounds for discrimination. Analysis and reflection of sustainability perspectives for electric operation of vehicles and ethical aspects. Overview of the technical description of different charging options for electric vehicles. Comparison between combustion and diesel vehicles and electric vehicles. Efficiency and environmental impact. Special aspects: how electric vehicles work in snow, forest, wind and heat, etc. Electric vehicles in society today and discussion of future propulsion systems.
Instruction
Lectures, guest lectures and compulsory seminars.
Assessment
Written and oral presentation of an in-depth project.
If there are special reasons for doing so, the examiner may make exceptions from the specified examination method of assessment and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
