Entry requirements

120 credits in Science/Technology. 30 credits on advanced level in water engineering. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to develop a stronger foundation for future work in water engineering.

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • apply knowledge and methods from previous courses in water engineering at the workplace,
  • independently and systematically implement and document parts of a project in water engineering at the workplace,
  • independently search, evaluate, and compile relevant information required in the project,
  • reflect on own learning and the need for further knowledge acquisition,
  • reflect on the operational goals and organisation of the workplace, as well as on collaboration with the supervisor and other staff at the workplace,
  • in English, summarise and formulate own conclusions of a selected project in a written report and in an oral presentation.

Content

The student, in consultation with the coordinator of the course, chooses a suitable supervisor and a location for the placement. The supervisor informs the student about the aim of the project and methods at the workplace. The student gets an opportunity, under supervision, to actively participate in the practical work at the workplace. Project and work tasks must be related to the education in water engineering. The student participates in meetings where relevant topics for the placement are discussed. The student takes responsibility and initiative in order to obtain adequate background for the practical work.

Instruction

Individual supervision at the workplace and by the coordinator at the department responsible for the course.

Assessment

Weekly written reporting to the coordinator at the department responsible for the course.  A project in which the student has played a major role must be reported in writing and orally at the end of the course according to instructions from the department responsible for the course. The report shall, among other things, summarise the practical work with the project as well as reflections on experiences during the placement.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.

Other directives

The placement must be approved by the coordinator at the department responsible for the course. The supervisor at the workplace shall issue a certificate after the end of the placement.
