Entry requirements
120 in science/engineering including either (1) Polymer Technology, (2) Polymer materials or (3) Polymer Chemistry and Engineering Materials. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course the student shall be able to:
- describe and perform the normal process steps within additive manufactuiring of polymers,
- explain and understand the main advantages and limitations of the various additive manufacturing methods such as extrusion, photopolymerization, powder bed fusion, material jetting and binder jetting,
- account for and utilize the "design space" that the various manufacturing technologies allow,
- eith the help of extrusion and powder bed fusion be able to produce functional prototypes based on given specifications.
Content
Various techniques for additive manufacturing of polymers including extrusion, photopolymerization, powder bed fusion, material jetting as well as binder jetting and their uses and limitations. Normal workflows for using the manufacturing techniques are demonstrated and practiced. Methods for characterizing manufactured components. Differences between additive manufacturing techniques and conventional techniques like injection moulding and moulding are discussed.
Instruction
Lectures and group project work with practical elements.
Assessment
Written exam (3 credits). Project work (2 credits).
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
