Entry requirements

150 credits in science/engineering/pharmacy. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course students should be able to

  • explicate the connection between technology, context and the company's internal organisation,
  • give an account of the basic differences between business development and intrapreneurship,
  • analyse the context of an technology intensive company in terms of competitors, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders,
  • analyse the strategies of a technological company by means of the most important strategy models, so to be able to identify the possibilities and barriers for a company's development,
  • in group formulate a technological company's strategy based on the models and concepts discussed during the course,
  • seek, sort, and critically scrutinize and analyse economic and technical information based on adequate research methods,
  • prepare and execute an oral presentation.

Content

The course aims to give students knowledge about the organisation of technological companies and their role in society. Strategies for technology-intensive companies regarding business development. Relationships between technology, context and companies internal organisation. Intrapreneurship can be explained as entrepreneurship in the context of an established company. Literature that deals with how technology development and business development are strategically organised. Research methods of relevance for scientifically based group projects in industrial strategy.

Instruction

Lectures, seminars, supervision of project work.

Assessment

Written take-home exam, active participation in seminars, written and oral presentation of project work in group and opposition on another group's project work.

Other directives

The course may not be included in the same degree as 1TS310 Industrial Strategy and Organisation.
