Entry requirements

140 credits in science/engineering, out of which 20 credits in electrical engineering at Master's level. Electric Propulsion Systems, and Batteries and Storage. Participation in Power Electronics II and Design of Electric Motors. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Learning outcomes

After passing the course, the student should be able to:

  • describe how an electric boat or ship function and its future possibilities,
  • describe the development and function of charging infrastructures at harbours and other marine facilities,
  • identify and compare propulsion systems and hydromechanics in different kinds of electric and fossile driven boats and ships,
  • plan and analyze how an electric boat ride, including charging, could be performed and, from the aspect of the system function, assess which challenges should be considered.

Content

Electric boats and ships, their functions, drivelines, and how they can be charged in harbours. Drivelines and hydromechanics in different variants of electrically and petrol driven boats and ships. Functions of electric boats and ships in marine environments and comparisions with todays technology with diesel and petrol driven ships.

Instruction

Lectures and seminars.

Assessment

Seminars.

If there are special reasons for doing so, the examiner may make exceptions from the specified examination method of assessment and allow a student to be assessed by another method.
