- independently apply various theoretical concepts and models within organisational and marketing theory to critically analyse organisational and consumer behaviors at different levels of analysis,
- independently discuss the impact and consequences of digitalisation on organisation and marketing,
- show insight into the role of management and its limitations in concrete ethical and societal challenges,
- independently organise and carry out group and individual tasks,
- orally and in writing, communicate and discuss results and conclusions,
- in collaboration with other students, independently write a short essay on a chosen problem area, discuss and defend the essay in a seminar, and perform an opposition on another essay.
Content
The course covers the theoretical fields of organizational and consumer behavior, with an integrated part where students' scientific training is developed.
In terms of organization, you will learn to use theoretically grounded organizational and management models to understand and solve practical organizational and management problems. The aim is to apply previous knowledge in a more in-depth manner based on a variety of organizational contexts. In marketing, we start from theories of consumer behaviour, as these form the basis for understanding consumers, and then introduce digitalisation as this has changed both the way we consume and how companies try to reach the customer.
As part of the scientific training, you will write a course essay. You will learn to problematize specific challenges and opportunities through the application of relevant research, as well as to operationalize identified variables to independently design and conduct a study.
Instruction
This is an on-campus course that consists of a combination of activities such as lectures, seminars, and group work. Active participation in seminars and group work is a requirement.
Assessment
The examination consists of three modules:
- Seminars, 3 credits (U, G)
- Written work, 3 credits (U, G)
- Exam, 9 credits (U, G, VG)
A final grade is given for the entire course, 15 credits.
For a final grade of Pass (G) on the entire course, at least the grade G is required on all three modules. For a final grade of Pass with distinction (VG) on the entire course, a grade of VG on module 3 and a grade of G on modules 1 and 2 is required.
Examination in module 1 takes place individually and in groups, while examination in module 2 takes place in groups. Examination in module 3 is individual. Grading criteria are described in the study guide that applies to each course. Examinations handed in late will not be graded except under special circumstances. Any remaining supplemental work must be completed and handed in by the deadline specified in the study guide.
For students who have not received a passing grade on the seminar series, the entire Module 1 (with all associated examination elements) must be redone via re-registration during subsequent course sections. For students who have not received a passing grade on the written work, the entire Module 2 (with all associated examination elements) must be redone via re-registration during subsequent course sections. For students who have not received a passing grade on Module 3 it is possible to make a re-exam at a subsequent course section without re-registration.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
Uppsala University does not accept cheating or plagiarism. Suspected incidents of cheating or plagiarism are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, which may issue a formal warning to the student or suspend the student from studies for a certain period.
NOTE: Only completed courses can count toward a degree.
