Additive manufacturing of multi-component Zinc-based alloys for degradable implants
About
My project focuses on developing biodegradable Zn-based alloys manufactured using 3D printing for biomedical implants. These implants will provide the necessary mechanical support while gradually degrading in the body as the tissue heals, eliminating the need for a second surgery. I will investigate how the alloy composition and 3D-printing process affect the material’s structure, mechanical properties, degradation behavior and biological response.
Background
I recently completed my Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano. My thesis focused on process optimization and microstructural characterization of non-equiatomic refractory high-entropy alloys processed via Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) for aerospace applications.
