Global Domestic Violence Shelter Pilot Study
An international research network consisting of 26 researchers are investigating the circumstances of women and children, who have been forced to seek shelter at women’s shelters and refuges following domestic violence.
This global study, consisting of 26 researchers from around the world, working at various institutions for higher education, examines the circumstances of women and children forced to seek help at women’s shelters/refuges following exposure to domestic violence.
The research network, led by Johanna Hietamäki (Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare), regularly hosts meetings and seminars online. It convened for a one-day meeting in conjunction with the 2025 European Conference on Domestic Violence (ECDV) in Barcelona.
During 2025, the network conducted a large gathering of data on a global level, in which over 100 directors of women’s shelters were interviewed regarding their activities and ability to provide refuge.
