17 of our researchers among the world’s top 2% most cited

17 researchers at the Department of Earth Sciences at Uppsala University feature on lists of the world’s top 2% most cited researchers. Thirteen appear on both the list for 2025 and the list covering their entire careers.

Citations are one of several indicators of research impact. They show the extent to which other researchers refer to and build on published research.

The latest data from Elsevier’s global database of standardized citation indicators show that 15 researchers at the Department of Earth Sciences are among the world’s top 2% most cited researchers based on citations received in 2025. A total of 16 researchers are included when citations over their entire careers are considered.

There is considerable overlap between the two lists. Thirteen researchers appear on both, while two appear only on the 2025 list and three only on the career-long list.

The data are based on information from Scopus and Elsevier. Citations provide one measure of research impact, but they do not capture the full quality or significance of research.
