Progressive evolution of structurally-controlled overbreaks: Long-term monitoring, hydromechanical simulation and rock testing

The overall purpose of the project is to explore the long-term evolution of rock mass damages and structurally-controlled overbreaks in Opalinus Clay shale in the context of nuclear waste disposal.

Details

  • Period: 2024-01-01 – 2027-12-31
  • Budget: 6,270,000 SEK
  • Funder: Mont Terri Consortium
  • Type of funding: Project Grant

Description

The project will combine in-situ surveying/monitoring with advanced discontinuum simulations as well as laboratory tests to study the underlying mechanisms of structurally-controlled overbreaks over long term, in order to assess the impact of potential faults on damage extents and the stability of repository drifts.
