Beskrivning

Our aim is to enhance the DestinE infrastructure by developing a Digital Twin of the Earth system for the cryosphere, land surface and related interactions (TerraDT). TerraDT subscribes to the DestinE vision of building DTs that are interactive and interoperable, while pushing the resolution to km-scale globally and contributing to the standardisation of the Climate DT approach.

TerraDT will improve the representation of Earth system components in km-scale climate models for land ice, sea ice, aerosols and land surface, which are currently missing or insufficiently represented in DestinE Climate DT. The project is based on a modular infrastructure with a coupling interface that allows flexible integration of new components, advanced model versions and AI/ML-based emulators.

TerraDT will also develop impact models that provide actionable and user-relevant information, including interactive applications. The project aims to improve the reliability and relevance of climate projections and impact assessments within DestinE, supporting users planning climate adaptation and mitigation actions.
