About us
Our predecessor, the Division of Networked Embedded Systems, was established in April 2023 following the relocation of a research group led by Professor Thiemo Voigt from the Department of Information Technology at Uppsala University to the Department of Electrical Engineering.
In January 2026, the division was expanded and subsequently renamed Integrated Smart Systems Technology in connection with the transfer of three research groups internally within the department, as well as the addition of a research group from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering led by Professor Klas Hjort.
The Division of Integrated Smart Systems (IST) conducts interdisciplinary research and education in intelligent and energy-efficient systems, spanning scales from microscale sensors and microelectromechanical systems to autonomous and networked platforms. The research integrates hardware and software development and encompasses both theoretical advances and the realization of advanced prototypes.
We publish at top tier conferences such as IEEE/ACM IPSN, ACM SenSys, ACM MobiSys, ACM MobiCom and EWSN.
