Project funding for pedagogical development to Ken Mattson

Ken Mattson, Professor at the Department of Information Technology; Division of Computational Science, has recently received project funding for pedagogical development. The project focuses on integrating two subjects - fluid mechanics and computational science - that are currently taught separately in different courses and departments.

The project aims to integrate fluid mechanics and computational science, two subjects taught on different courses from different departments. The goal is to clarify the connection between the courses for the students. The project means that the teaching teams from the respective courses will develop projects where theory from computational science is used to solve complex problems in applications of fluid mechanics. To support the project work, short, in-depth video lectures will be developed. Expected outcomes include a deeper understanding and improved problem solving skills of the students.

The evaluation team considers that the project idea is clear and feasible. The fact that the project involves teaching teams from two courses in different departments indicates broad support and good sustainability. Although the use of recorded lectures is not particularly innovative in itself (as it is common in course development), the project team is encouraged to involve students more clearly, for example through dialogue with the student section of the programme concerned.
