Sara Florisson receives Benzelius Award

Sara Florisson, Researcher at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering; Applied Mechanics
Sara Florisson, researcher at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Uppsala University, has been awarded the Benzelius Award by the Royal Society of Sciences in Uppsala. She receives the award for her studies of wood and how the material is affected by changes in moisture.
Sara Florisson receives the award in the technical and economic sciences class for outstanding studies of the hygromechanical properties of wood materials. In her research, she uses methods including X-ray micro-computed tomography and computational modelling to investigate the structure and properties of wood.
The Benzelius Award is worth SEK 25,000 and has been presented since 1984. It is named after Eric Benzelius the Younger, who founded the Royal Society of Sciences in Uppsala in 1710. The Society is Sweden’s oldest learned society and was established to collect, develop and disseminate knowledge about the emerging natural sciences.
